Men supporting their wives is a vital aspect of any successful marriage. This encompasses emotional, mental and physical support, fostering a deep and lasting bond between partners. In our conversation with Mr Usman Bello, a lecturer and father of two, he tells us how he has been supportive to his wife in their four years of marriage. Read below:
What is your wife’s occupation?
She is a Pharmacist.
Are there times that she has complained that you do not support her? If yes, can we know about it and what was your response?
Yes, especially few months ago when she was pregnant. You know pregnant women complain a lot. (Laughs)
Was that your response – That pregnant women complain a lot?
No, not at all. Anytime she makes such complaints, I usually ask her what she wants me to help her with. Like the last time she was pregnant, she simply asked me to boil groundnuts for her. Having a pregnant wife is fun but with a whole lot of responsibilities. I can vividly remember there was a time she woke me by 3am in the morning to turn off the air conditioner she initially insisted that I left on till daybreak. She didn’t stop there. She told me to make her hot tea that she’s cold.
Can you tell us how you support your wife in her business or her job/career?
Though our career paths do not align, I got married to my wife when she was in her final year. Then, I did all the editing and proofreading of her project work.
Do you help around the house with chores? If yes, what chores do you help with?
Yes. I make tea for her or noodles with loads of onions. (Laughs)
Do you believe supporting your wife will make a positive impact in your family?
Yes. Whenever we go to the hospital, she often tells the doctor how supportive I am.
How do you ensure your wife is happy?
By giving her good love with the best care, providing for her and our kids.
If your wife has a business idea and requests that you join her in running it, will you accept?
Yes, in fact, we are planning to set up our pharmacy.
